As a breed beagles produce their puppies easily in reasonable numbers and seem to accept a life in kennels in philosophical fashion. As a result they have been bred extensively for use in medical/veterinary research laboratories, making them victims of their own super friendly temperaments.
From the point of view of life as a member of a human household, they are similarly accommodating. They enjoy being part of a gang in much the same way as make good term members of a pack hunting hares.
They are tidy creatures although they are not always easy to house train. Their short waterproof coat makes them drip dry in the foulest of weathers. Even after a day running across clay, a quick sponge down soon makes them acceptable in the kitchen.
The beagle is not greedy though life in hunt kennels tends to make him wallow his daily ration fast. He is not prone to veterinary problems and lives a reasonably ripe old age. It is unusual to see a beadle winning an obedience competition, as the breed has a tendency not to stay around for the recall once off the lead. This is a breed that pleases families who lead active lives.
All our puppies are now vet checked on a weekly basis and are sold with vaccination card having had their first vaccinations, with our own vet.
